Los Angeles Mayor Honors ASACP

Los Angeles — The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) has received a “Certificate of Recognition” from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, honoring its RTA “Restricted To Adults” website label.

The Certificate of Recognition recognizes ASACP’s efforts to help parents prevent their children from viewing age-inappropriate content with the RTA website label, stating, “Your contributions are an asset to the City of Los Angeles.”

The certificate was issued to commemorate ASACP being named to the 2008 Associations Advance America Honor Roll, a national awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and The Center for Association Leadership in Washington. ASACP was one of 15 organizations to receive this distinction from ASAE, and was placed on its Honor Roll for the RTA website label.

“It’s very validating to receive this type of recognition for RTA,” ASACP CEO Joan Irvine said. “We are honored to receive this award from Mayor Villaraigosa, and we are grateful to everyone who has made this possible by choosing to protect children by labeling with RTA.”

RTA was developed out of a need for an easy-to-use and internationally recognized label that designates adults-only content. The RTA label is a string of meta data which can be inserted into the computer code of any website. Parental filtering software recognizes the tag and prevents children from viewing age-inappropriate material.

The RTA label is free and universally available.

ASACP launched RTA in November 2006, and it now has over 4 million page link-ins. Complete information about the RTA label and how to use it is available here.

Founded in 1996, ASACP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating online child pornography through its CP hotline and through the organization of the online adult industry in the fight against child porn. ASACP also helps parents keep their children from viewing age-inappropriate material online. For more information, visit ASACP.org.
